Build Engagement with your dog.

About Me

My Program

Thank you for considering Cow Dawg Outdoors for your dog's training! I am passionate about working with families to teach them how to build confidence and trust in their relationships with their pets. Whether you are working solo or in a group, I will be teaching you how to use positive reinforcement techniques to train your pup on some basic skills: touch, hand target/place, focus, collar grabs, handling drills, sit, down, leave it, recall, release, stay, and loose leash walking. Each session will last about an hour.

Your dog may already have some of these skills. If it does, I can show you how to take those skills to the next level by adding distraction, distance, and duration to your training. We will use a clicker or verbal marker to reinforce the desired behavior and small treat rewards as a motivator. Your pup should be hungry for class, so don't feed it before you arrive. If your dog is not food motivated, don't worry, we can use affection or toys.

The group classes are suitable for most pups over 16 weeks old. Younger puppies are more susceptible to communicable canine diseases, and mixing with mature dogs is safer once they receive all their shots. Always consult your veterinarian if you need clarification. Reactive, anxious, or nervous dogs can be a challenge in a group setting for an inexperienced handler. If you need help deciding what class to attend, please call me to discuss your concerns.

Here is all you will need to start your training:

  • A copy of your dog's up-to-date shot record

  • Flat collar

  • Solid 4' – 5' leash

  • 125 - 150 pea-sized treats

  • A mat suitable for the size of your pup

The treats can be anything the dog likes but should differ from daily kibble. A training/treat bag is optional, but they come in handy, and you can pick one up at any pet store. Harnesses are okay (you might like it more than your dog), but make sure it fits well and has a front or chest clip for leash walking. I will be supplying the clicker. You don't have to use it, but please give it a chance.

My training facility is in the brown outbuilding at 1728 County Road 995, Ashland, Ohio. If the bay door is open, you can enter there. Otherwise, you will see a gate to the right of the barn. Once you enter the fence, the door is immediately on your left. There are no public restrooms.

If you have any questions, please call or text me at (419)606-0948. You can also email me at cowdawgoutdoors@gmail.com.

I look forward to working with you and your dog!
